Star's History

The Star Story
Star Manufacturing Company was founded in 1864 in the town of Carpentersville, Illinois when John Carpenter, a blacksmith by trade, built a forge on the banks of the Fox River for the manufacture and repair of steel plow parts.

In 1873, Star Manufacturing Company was officially chartered – the third company in Illinois to be chartered under the law. In 1971 Star Forge, Inc. acquired Star Manufacturing Company.

Through the years, Star continually kept pace with the growth of mechanized agriculture. Over a century of experience has made Star a leader in tillage implements production.

In the summer of 1977, we moved our total production facilities to Freeport, Illinois. The original Freeport facility was 40,000 square feet. Throughout the years, and as new equipment has been acquired the facility, we have grown to over 120,000 square feet of manufacturing space.

Although, we still offer many types of mold board components, we have expanded into producing parts for a variety of agricultural equipment including combines, tractors, balers, seeders and cultivators. Our company at the same time has grown and diversified into serving many different industries including Railroad, Oil & Gas, Agriculture, Mining, Construction, and Fastener Distribution.

We continue growing and expanding; in sales, facilities, tooling, and expertise. We continue investing in new equipment and offering customers more in-house processes. Our workforce is experienced and many of our staff have been employed with Star for 30+ years. With the help of our team and state of the art equipment, we are committed to providing quality products that meet or exceed customer expectations while focusing on continuous improvement.
